Custom Dais Of Destruction.

So i had the turretless eldar falcon turn up today, and had the sudden urge to create a monstrosity! Below are the first WiP shots of said monstrosity.

As you can see, it’s going to be a fairly large vehicle.

And this will become the commanders “bridge” for want of a less star trekky term.

I wanted to Base this off of an old pirate ship as it’s quite clearly where the dark eldar vehicles were headed, and I think so far it’s going OK!! The huge sail is a big help, I will likely add another smaller sail further forward too. Now I just have to find an adequate crew for her!!

Modern Astra Militarum #3

So again, not a massive update, I have had a party to prepare for which I’m leaving for in 15 minutes so progress has been pretty slow…

Anyway! Finished converting the tank crew for the Warrior and started painting them too.

So it’s getting somewhere slowly, I’m really liking it so far! Now I’ve just got to finish making the warrior tank, decide whether or not to put the extra armor on, and find a way to convert the Heavy Machine Gun main barrel into an auto cannon.

And as a little extra for this post, the old pattern Dark Eldar Raider turned up, and I’ve done a tiny bit of conversion and started the paint job.

So here is the sail equipped old Raider, with a converted crew and weapon, with the basic rust painted, it just needs to be cleaned up (alot) and I have a few last crew members from hasslefree coming.

So, what’s everyone think?

Modern Astra Militarum #2

Have not made a huge amount of progress here, started making and painting the BAE Warrior Tank, with a few little conversions.

As you can see the 1/48 vehicles seem to fit really nicely with the Gw shocktroopers. I plan on having 2 on the turret hatches, one tank commander and a spotter.

This is so much more fun to make then any Gw product too!! SO many parts!! This will be a long drawn out process though, so many details and stuff, and alot more conversions to do to it Aswel! Can’t wait for the challenger to turn up.

Modern Theme Astra Militarum

Yep, any old time followers will likely sigh right now, this theme is one I keep coming back to, and always fail somehow, but this time I’m determined!!

Anyway, before all that, I have finished my dark eldar warriors.

All painted and based. Finished! So now I just have to wait for my old style Raider to convert, and my turretless eldar grav tank to convert…

In the mean time I have a new project!

So these turned up today!! Woo!!

And here is how they will be painted.

Sorry about picture quality, I can’t focus my camera because I’m holding the minis above my head to get closer to the light!! I will sort this asap.

Anyway, the paint scheme, the fatigues I have painted in my attempt at modern British MTP and done the sandy yellow armor to fit in with the current conflicts in the middle east. The red and white stripes are usually used on WW2 era British tanks, but I have decided to make that the army insignia.

How to Paint Rust.

So, this has been a long time coming!! I did try yesterday but for some reason I can’t upload videos on here, so had to do it again today with pictures.

Anyway, my Rust technique is extremely simple!! I use only 5 Paints,

3 generic paints (olive, brown, orange)

Nuln Oil.

Vallejo Air Steel.

I use Revell aqua colors instead of citadel paints as their thinner and in my opinion easier to control (not to mention cheaper!) but the 3 paints I use are pictured below and there are definitely alternatives in every range.

With the olive being the Base color I made sure it was thicker and more textured by leaving it open for a few hours.

This way the rust looks a little more lifted from the Base, and I think it looks better then actual textured paints because the particals in textured paint are too big.

Anyway, onto the technique, firstly Base the whole model in the olive color.

Then, roughly stipple the brown over the top, thick, but not too thick.

Then, while still wet apply the orange in the same way.

I know, it looks pretty awful right now but don’t worry!! It gets better. Now, when this is TOTALLY dry, move on to a metallic Drybrush, make sure it’s a bright silver color, as the nuln oil wash will darken it down.

Drybrush.

Oil wash, this darkens all the tones down a bit and brings them all together Aswel, usually I would go on to highlights here but frankly, the sheer amount of pictures I would have to upload put me off it, but highlight in the usual way, it is tricky and I tend to have multiple brushes in use for it, one for each color, and lightly highlight all necessary areas. Then add the details and…

Ta-da!

There you have it, that’s how I paint rust, this technique works when painting whole areas or small blotches on metal paints. Hope everyone enjoyed and uses this!

Reaver squad

Hey happy gamers! I hope everyone is in high spirits! So I have a small update, I finished off my reaver squad! Absolute joy to paint! And I love the look of them!

Reaver one, just love the shape!! And I love how the rust contrasts so much with the sharp crisp shapes.

Reaver 2

Reaver 3.

Had an interesting idea with the control panel, see how the green goes to yellow and then red? With the models that are turning either left or right, the Green bar moves to that side, for example:

This one is angled slightly right, so has 2 green bars on the right.

And this one is angled excessively to the left, so has 3 green bars on the left.

Only a small detail but I thought it was pretty cool!

So this is the force so far, now to grind out the warriors and wait for the new models to arrive!

So what’s everyone think so far?
